Conference AIM and Format
BACKGROUND: This is the third US-Israel brain research conference organized by Rutgers University in collaboration with Israeli universities and medical centers. The first two, held in 2005 and 2008, were hosted by Hebrew University and held in Jerusalem, Israel.
AIMS: Building on the success of our past two meetings, the aim of this 2024 conference is to support and expand scientific and educational collaboration between US and Israeli scientists doing research on understanding, diagnosing, and curing Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, we seek to facilitate Israeli graduate students finding postdoctoral fellowship positions at US universities; to that end we will have a scientific poster session for Israeli students to present their work. US students and other participants are also welcome to present posters. Our longer-term goals are to expand opportunities for US-Israeli collaboration on scientific studies, papers, and grants that advance our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
SCOPE: We will include molecular, cellular, systems, behavioral and cognitive neuroscience approaches to understanding, preventing, and treating Alzheimer’s disease, with about half the talks being laboratory-based and/or animal studies and the other half being human clinical studies.
FORMAT: The format will be a one-day workshop at Tel Aviv University, hosted by both Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. See program details below. We expect between 100 and 150 Israeli scientists, clinicians and students to attend (with the latter participating in our poster session/job fair). Additional students, faculty, funders, and biotech/pharmaceutical industry representatives from the United States are also expected to join us.
DATE: Sunday, September 22, 2024 (with historical and touristic outings on Monday, September 23rd to provide unstructured time for discussions to promote further US-Israel interactions and develop future collaborations).
